The parties were married in 1969. In 1993 the wife filed a petition for divorce, alleging an incompatibility of temperament, an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage, adultery on the part of the husband, and physical abuse by the husband. Following oral proceedings, the trial court awarded custody of the parties’ 18-year-old daughter to the wife, ordered the husband to pay child support and to be responsible for one-half of the child’s college expenses, beginning in September 1994.
