In this case, we are presented once again with the distressingly familiar litigation which arises when parents who have decided to divorce engage in a protracted legal tug-of-war over the custody of their children. The present custody battle, which has involved the courts and administrative agencies of both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, spans nearly eight years, during which time the child who is the subject of the dispute has grown from a toddler to an eight year old boy.
