Following a jury trial, defendant was found guilty on one count of attempt murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 8 — 4), two counts of aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4), and one count of possession of a controlled substance (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 56/2, par. 1402(b)), and not guilty of one count of attempt murder. The trial court merged one guilty verdict for aggravated battery into the guilty verdict for attempt murder and sentenced defendant to concurrent prison terms of 22 years for attempt murder, five years for aggravated battery, and three years for…
