August 6, 1879, the Bell Telephone Company of New York (hereinafter called the “Bell Company”), entered into a contract with the Domestic Telephone Company, a New York corporation (hereinafter called the “Domestic Company”), by which the Domestic Company acquired exclusive right and license to use, and rent to others to use, certain telephones under patent owned by the National Telephone Company of Massachusetts in the district composed of the city of Newark and the townships of Harrison and Kearney, in New Jersey, for the period of five years from September 1, 1879.
