The Equity Improvement Company was incorporated by the Legislature of Virginia in eighteen hundred and ninety, and in March of that year, it opened books in Winchester for subscriptions to its capital stock. The company was one of many development enterprises which sprang up about that period and flourished for awhile and then disintegrated. Amongst those who became shareholders was the appellant. He subscribed for one thousand shares of the capital stock of the par value of five dollars per share. During the year eighteen hundred and ninety, he paid to the company five calls of fifty dollars…
