The respondent brought the present action against the appellant Jackson County, Missouri, upon claims which had been assigned to him by 30 different individuals, hereinafter referred to as the assignors. Each of the assignors had acted in the capacity of a deputy or assistant to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Jackson County at some time during the period from March 1, 1935, to December 31, 1939.
