This case comes to us as the result of a long, drawn-out family feud. Our first step, then, is to meet the families. It’s not always easy to keep them straight. Most of the family members have been married more than once, the women’s names keep changing, and at one point two of the sisters involved in this dispute were named Ruth Westphal. On top of that, the three parties to this appeal are all proceeding both individually and in some other capacity. Hugh Downs is the representative of the estate of his deceased wife Joanne.
