¶ 1. In May 2008, John Willie Bell was convicted in the Madison County Circuit Court of burglary of a dwelling and sentenced as a habitual offender to twenty-five years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) without eligibility for parole or probation. Pri- or to jury deliberations, Bell filed a motion for a directed verdict, which was denied.
