Defendant, Lynn Lovelace, was charged by indictment with three counts of aggravated battery. Subsequently, defendant was also charged, by information, with two counts of resisting a peace officer.

One of the aggravated battery counts charged that defendant, in committing a battery, without legal justification, knowingly caused great bodily harm to the victim in violation of section 12 — 4(a) of the aggravated battery statute.
