Plaintiff-appellant Juan Hernandez, a prisoner in the New York State prison system, sued various state prison officials in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (Pitman, J.), alleging that they violated the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment by their deliberate indifference to his serious medical needs.
