OPINION

GILMAN, Circuit Judge.

Jeffrey Dewayne Clark appeals the district court’s denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus, filed pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. A Kentucky jury convicted Clark of first-degree murder in 1995. The state trial court subsequently sentenced Clark to a term of life imprisonment. We granted a certificate of appealability as to the following issues: (1) whether the trial court improperly admitted evidence of satanism, (2) whether the trial of Clark and his codefendant was improperly joined, and (3) whether the prosecution improperly withheld a letter written…
