Plaintiffs are former employees of the Interborough Rapid Transit System, having been connected with its operating and maintenance divisions. While in its employ they joined the Transport Workers Union of Greater New York, of which defendants are now officers. In June, 1940, the City of New York acquired the Interborough and plaintiffs then became city employees and were classified in its civil *481service. The Transport Workers Union had previously entered into a contract with the Interborough relating to the wages and working conditions of its employees, which contract, on April 3, 1940, was…
