Appellant Marvin Gay Jefferson was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated robbery and sentenced to a total of thirteen years’ imprisonment. Jefferson was initially charged with attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery, as were codefendants Ronald Foster and Tyrell Starr. Jefferson appealed his conviction to the court of appeals, which reversed on the ground that the circuit court erred in admitting into evidence the redacted statement of Jefferson’s non-testifying codefendant.
