On the 10th April, 1856, Thomas Smith made his will, hy which he devised and bequeathed, after payment of debts, all his property, real and personal, to Ebenezer Maxwell and Joseph Scattergood, his executors, in trust for “ the uses and purposes of Friends’ Boarding School at West-Town, to make conveyances,” &c., “ as the Yearly Meeting’s committee, for the time being, charged with the care and management of the said school, shall order, direct, and appoint.” It was further provided in the will that $60,000 of the value of the estate…
