The action was brought to recover damages for a libel which the defendant had published, the complaint alleging that the plaintiff, whose business was to collect news and furnish it to daily and other newspapers, had obtained such news from another corporation (known as the “Associated Press,” engaged in the same business), by tapping the wires used by the Associated Press. The complaint further alleges that, by reason of the publication of the said article by the defendant, the reputation of the plaintiff was greatly damaged, and the confidence which the public generally had theretofore…
