GULOTTA, Judge.

This is an appeal from a judgment awarding total and permanent workmen’s compensation benefits to an employee welder in the sum of $49.00 per week for a period of 500 weeks.

On February 23, 1972, while in the course of his employment, plaintiff injured *485his lower back when knocked against a metal valve. Defendants concede that plaintiff sustained an injury to his back which activated a pre-existing congenital abnormality.
