On the night of September 5, 1945, the dead body of Phyllis Jean Epperson, aged three, was found on the river bank at South Fork, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Death resulted from injuries to the head, which appeared to have been crushed in several places by stones, Lloyd James Edwards was taken into custody by the police and he admitted that he had struck the deceased several times with large stones.
