dissents in part in a memorandum as follows: While a trial justice is afforded considerable discretion in setting punishment, the sentence imposed upon this defendant is severe in the extreme. Even as modified by the majority, the resulting aggregate period of incarceration of 23 years to life, two years short of the maximum penalty for kidnapping of 25 years to life, is unduly harsh under the circumstances.
