Bell, Justice.

Thomas Camillus Adams was indicted for the malice murder of Barbara Caldwell, a/k/a Barbara Hartline. He was found to be guilty but mentally ill, OCGA § 17-7-131, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Adams appeals, and we affirm.

Adams and his wife lived in a mobile home in Lyerly, Georgia, across the street from Barbara Caldwell and Howard Gene Hartline. Gene and Adams had been friendly, but Barbara did not like Adams, and pressured Gene into avoiding him. On the evening of June 29, 1984, Adams visited the Hartlines.
