delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant, Norvel Holmes, appeals from a judgment of conviction entered upon a jury verdict finding him guilty of the offense of attempted armed robbery. (IU. Rev. Stat. 1971, ch. 38, par. 8 — 4.) He was sentenced to a term of 3 to 9 years in the State penitentiary.
