The State Bank was incorporated as a banking institution prior to the late war. In order to prevent confusion, it may be well to state at the outset, that the State Bank was a private banking corporation, and the Bank of the State was a public corporation established for the benefit of the State. Upon the seige of the city of Charleston, in 1863, the assets of the State Bank were removed to the town of Camden, where, in 1865, they were taken from the agent of the bank, by soldiers in the invading army of General Sherman, then passing…
