Arnold Friedman was an important American artist who derived his style from Impressionism, but who expanded and transcended that idiom with his own unique personal style.1 Friedman’s biography reads like the classic (some might say stereotyped) tale of a struggling artist whose work was never *74appreciated in financial terms until well after his death.
