FRYE, JUSTICE.
Defendant was indicted for the murder of Gloria'Pamela Carver. He was tried noncapitally by a jury, found guilty of murder in the first degree, and sentenced to a mandatory term of life imprisonment. Additionally, defendant was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of failure to appear at his murder trial on 11 March 1991. Defendant appealed his murder conviction to this Court. We allowed defendant’s petition for certiorari and to bypass the Court of Appeals in order to review the judgment entered upon his plea of guilty to the charge of failure to…
