In this longstanding voting rights case, defendant Autauga County Board of Education initiated additional proceedings against a third-party defendant, the Alabama Democratic Conference (the “ADC”), seeking a declaratory judgment that the school board’s system of electing its members from two multi-member districts complied with federal statutory and constitutional law. 1 The school board further sought authorization to submit the multi-member-district plan to the Attorney General of the United States for preclearance under § 5 of the Voting Rights Act of…
