FORET, Judge.

Defendant, Linda B. Martin, was indicted by a grand jury with second degree mur*335der, a violation of La.R.S. 14:30.1. Defendant, with benefit of counsel, was formally arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty. The defendant was tried before a twelve-person jury and found guilty of a lesser offense, manslaughter, a violation of La. R.S. 14:31. The defendant was sentenced on June 19,1985, to serve ten years at hard labor, seven of which were to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
