(dissenting). The majority’s decision goes far beyond protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. By disapproving of the stop of defendant, in which officers took reasonable steps based on the combination of facts known to them, this Court is discouraging police work that is not only constitutionally proper but also laudable. Such a precedent will serve to impede effective law enforcement and interfere with the protection and safety of the public.
