LAND, Justice.(1) This is a suit to cancel an oil, gas and mineral lease affecting the North 22% acres of the Southeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter, less 5 acres in a square in the Northeast Corner, and less 1 acre in a square in the Northwest Corner, in Section 24, Township 23 North, Range 16 West, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, in what is known as the Rodessa Oil and Gas Field.

The grounds alleged for the cancellation of the lease are:(a) That lessee, Surf Oil Company, abandoned the property; and(b) In the alternative, that lessee failed to pay plaintiffs royalties allegedly due them under…
