Appellate Court of Illinois

1Opinion of the Court

PRESIDING JUSTICE NASH

delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant, Joseph Williams, appeals from an order of the circuit court denying his petition to elect treatment pursuant to the Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Act (Ill. Rev. Stat., 1984 Supp., ch. llV-k, par. 6322), and imposing a term of five years imprisonment upon a conviction for robbery. He contends that (1) the court erred in finding that robbery is a “crime of violence” which rendered defendant ineligible to elect treatment under the Act; and (2) the court abused its discretion in refusing to afford defendant treatment.
