Defendant Elron Cathey appeals from an order of the circuit court of Cook County summarily dismissing his petition for relief under the Post-Conviction Hearing Act (Act) (725 ILCS 5/122 — 1 et seq. (West 2008)). Defendant contends that the circuit court erred in dismissing his petition at the first stage of proceedings because he set forth the gist of meritorious claims that the trial court deprived him of his rights to due process and a fair trial when it delayed ruling on his motion in limine to exclude his prior convictions…
