1Opinion of the Court

SELYA, Circuit Judge.

This procedural motley requires us to determine when, and under what circumstances, an order dismissing an action “without prejudice” is final and, hence, ap-pealable. Along the way, we also must determine whether the district court erred either by rejecting the plaintiffs’ belated attempt to amend their complaint or by refusing to extend the time within which they might file a notice of appeal. Concluding, as we do, that the lower court handled the matter appropriately in all respects, we affirm.
