The defendant in this proceeding, James Edgar Bates, was sentenced to from one-to-five years in the State Penitentiary for manslaughter, one-to-five years in the State Penitentiary for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and from two-to-ten years in the State Penitentiary for distribution of marijuana to a person under age eighteen. The sentences were imposed so as to run consecutively. On appeal, the defendant claims that he introduced evidence which demonstrates that he acted in self-defense at the time of the killing resulting in the manslaughter charge, and he suggests that…
