CARNES, Circuit Judge:
Jeffrey Backus pleaded guilty to and was convicted of possessing a firearm and ammunition after having been convicted of a felony, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). The guilty plea was conditioned on Backus being allowed to appeal the denial of his motion to suppress the results of a search of his home. That search, which turned up firearms and ammunition proving Backus’ guilt of the crime of possessing them, was conducted with the express consent of his estranged wife.
