GULOTTA, Judge.

This is an appeal from a judgment awarding total and permanent disability benefits as well as penalties and attorney’s fees.

On September 21, 1970, while employed as a mechanic’s helper, plaintiff, Leo J. Melerine, suffered the amputation of the bone of the right thumb, including the distal joint (the one most remote from the hand) and a small portion of the bone between the distal joint and the proximal joint (the one joining with the hand).
