On April 29, 1987, defendant, Ricky Bowman, Sr., was charged by complaint with residential burglary. Defendant was arrested and taken into custody on August 6, 1987. On that same day, defendant made his initial appearance on this charge in the circuit court of Rock Island County. The public defender was appointed to represent defendant and made a demand for a speedy trial. (See Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 103 — 5.)
