HARRELL, Judge.

The State charged Joe Roy Metheny, Appellant, with the first-degree premeditated murder and robbery of Catherine Magaziner in Baltimore City. The State timely filed a notice of intention to seek the death penalty, as well as life without parole.1 On 25 September 1998, Appellant pled guilty to the charges in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County,2 but elected a jury for the sentencing phase.
