A jury convicted appellant, Julio Madrigal Jr., of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the court sentenced him to sixteen years’ confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice — Institutional Division. See Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 22.02(a)(2) (West 2009). By four issues, with several sub-issues, Madrigal contends that the trial court erred by: (1) infringing upon his Fifth Amendment right to not act as a witness against himself; (2) admitting into evidence a knife allegedly used by Madrigal without proper authentication;…
