Plaintiff La Salle Machine Tool, Inc. [La Salle] brought this action, under federal diversity jurisdiction, 1 against Maher Terminals, Inc. [Maher], a terminal operator, for damages allegedly caused by Maher’s negligence in unloading a crate of maehinery components from a truck at Baltimore harbor. Maher did not seriously contest its negligence, and the parties stipulated La Salle’s damages as $37,500. The primary question presented to the district court, and the sole issue on this appeal, is whether Maher is entitled to limit its liability to $500, under the terms…
