In April 2008, following a jury trial, respondent, Michael Doherty, was adjudicated a sexually violent person under the Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act (the Act) (725 ILCS 207/1 et seq. (West 2002)). The trial court ordered respondent committed for institutional care in a secure facility.
