Defendant Perdue Farms, Inc. (Perdue) appeals an opinion and award of the Full Commission of the North Carolina Industrial Commission (the Commission) filed 19 November 1999 awarding Ernestine Demery (Plaintiff) permanent total disability compensation.

The record shows that at the time of her workers’ compensation hearing, Plaintiff had been working for Perdue for thirteen years. Plaintiff testified her job with Perdue was the only job she had ever had. In 1992, Plaintiffs employment duties consisted of “hanging birds on the line.” During this time period, Plaintiff began…
