Defendant-appellant Larry D. Spears was charged by indictment with armed robbery and attempt murder in violation of sections 8 — -4(a) and 18 — 2(a) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, pars. 8 — 4(a), 18 — 2(a)). Defendant was found guilty by a jury on June 16,1976 and was sentenced to concurrent prison terms of 7 to 21 years on each offense. Defendant contends on appeal that the State failed to meet its burden on the issue of defendant’s sanity at the time of the offense and that he was denied a fair trial as a result of prejudicial remarks and incorrect statements…
