The plaintiffs in this Superior Court action are a firefighter in the town of Ludlow, claiming to represent a class of similarly situated Ludlow firefighters, and their union. On September 14, 1988, the plaintiffs filed a complaint against the Ludlow selectmen based upon a change, which took effect on July 1, 1988, in Ludlow’s plan to provide its employees with health insurance under G.
