LAVORATO, Justice.

We granted the Meredith Corporation’s application for interlocutory appeal to determine whether the district court properly denied Meredith’s motion for summary judgment. The plaintiff, Charles Behr, alleges that Meredith defamed him in an article published in its magazine, Successful Farming. Denying this charge, Meredith asserts, among other things, that there is no genuine issue of material fact because the statements about Behr were substantially true, an absolute defense to a defamation action.
