A grand jury charged nine defendants with rape (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, par. 11 — 1), deviate sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, par. 11 — 3), two counts of indecent liberties with a child (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, pars. 11 — 4(a)(1), (2)), two counts of robbery (Ill. Rev.
