Lea Brothers & Company and two other firms filed, on December 18, 1898, a petition in the District Court of the United States for the Eastern District of Yirginia, praying that an alleged debtor, the George M. West Company, a corporation located in Bichmond, Yirginia, be adjudicated a bankrupt, because of the fact that it had, on the date of the filing of the petition, executed a deed of general assignment, conveying all its property and assets to Joseph Y.…
