In 2008, a Chatham County jury convicted Anthony Butler of felony murder and other crimes in connection with the stabbing death of Reader Mae Stewart. Butler contends the evidence was legally insufficient to support his convictions. In addition, he argues the trial court erred in granting the State’s motion in limine barring the defense from mentioning the first offender status of a State witness, sustaining an objection to defense counsel’s questioning of the same witness, and denying the defendant’s motion to sequester the lead detective.
