An Essex County grand jury returned four indictments against the defendant, Fletcher Titus, each alleging three counts of rape of a child under sixteen years of age, G. L. c. 265, § 23; one indictment for kidnapping in violation of G. L.‘ c. 265, § 26, and one indictment for threatening to commit a crime in violation of G. L. c. 275, § 2. Following two trials the defendant was found guilty on each count of each indictment.
