OPINION
BARKER, J.
INTRODUCTION
We granted this appeal to decide whether the Court of Appeals erred in holding that expert medical or scientific proof of a serious mental injury is required to support the plaintiffs’ claims for intentional infliction of emotional distress. The trial court granted the defendants’ motion for summary judgment because the plaintiffs failed to have available expert proof to corroborate their claims of having sustained serious mental injuries.
