This case originated in an information filed August 8, 1945, in the Circuit Court of Botetourt county, Virginia, under Virginia Code, 1942 (Michie), section 4675 (38a), Acts of 1936, page 429, for the forfeiture of a Buick five-passenger coupe automobile. On July 31, 1945, the date of *1046its seizure, the automobile was being driven and operated in Botetourt county by Burton B. Laughters, its owner. .It then contained seventeen cases of bottled whiskey, 380 bottles, a quantity largely in excess of one gallon. The whiskey had been purchased in Washington, D.
