On the 15th of April, 1872, the Commissioner of Indian Affairs at Washington instructed Enoch Hoag, superintendent of Indian affairs at Lawrence, Kans., to obtain from the different. railroads entering the Indian agency the lowest rates at which they would transport goods and supplies to the terminus of their respective roads, and also to obtain from said companies and from other responsible parties proposals for wagon transportation from the terminus to the' respective agencies.
