The primary question on this appeal is whether the defendant’s credibility may be impeached by use of prior inconsistent statements which were suppressed at a pretrial hearing where the court had found, contrary to the police officer’s testimony, that the defendant had not been advised of his rights (Miranda v Arizona, 384 US 436), and had, in fact, not made the statements attributed to him.
